Botox, Dysport and Xeomin:
What are Botox, Dysport and Xeomin Injection Treatments?
Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in the United States, and has helped millions of people reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are all forms of a neuromodulator that are injected into facial wrinkles to weaken the targeted muscle and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. They offer long lasting, wrinkle smoothing results without surgery or downtime and are virtually pain free.
How does it work?
Dysport works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles in the designated area which prevents the muscle from contracting. Its effect is confined to the injection site and does not travel or spread throughout the body.
What’s the Difference between Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?
All three are neuromodulators that work essentially the same way to stop muscle movement. Botox was the first to market in 2002 and is now a household name. Dysport, approved in 2009, provides fast, fabulous, natural-looking results and is our favorite choice. Dysport often times takes effect sooner and, in many people, lasts longer than Botox. Xeomin most recently hit the market in 2011 and is another alternative to Botox or Dysport.
Uses for Botox, Dysport and Xeomin Injection Treatment:
Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin are all commonly administered for the following indications: frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, corners of the mouth, brow lift or brow balance, gummy smile, teeth grinding, wrinkled and dimpled chin, nasal flare, excessive sweating, platysmal (neck) bands.
Preparing for Botox, Dypsort or Xeomin injections Treatment:
During your initial consultation with a your injector, a close review of your medical history will be conducted. It is important to mention all of the medications, vitamins and herbal or natural supplements you are taking. To minimize the chance of bruising, it is important to avoid consuming alcohol, ingesting anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Motrin (i.e. NSAIDS) as well as aspirin, and certain herbal supplements and vitamins like Vitamin E, Ginkgo Bilboa, etc. as these are known to increase bruisability.
What to Expect During the Botox, Dysport or Xeomin Injection Treatment:
A very tiny needle is inserted into the muscles to be treated, quickly delivering small amounts of the neuromodulator. Although a small needle is used to minimize discomfort and bruising, some patients report mild, temporary discomfort from this procedure. The injections themselves only take a few minutes to administer, making it a quick non-surgical treatment and requires no downtime.
When Will You Expect to See Results and How Long Do the Results Last?
You can begin to see a smoother appearance soon after your treatment. Visible results are noticeable in 3-5 days, while full results may take up to 2 weeks following injections. The benefits typically last 3-5 months.
